Constitution
(Approved at the 2005 AGM)
1. The name of the Society is: the Servants Anonymous Society of Calgary (SAS).
2. The objects of the Society are:
a) To offer long-term Programs, ongoing support, hope and wholeness to young women (with or without) children who are victims of, or at risk of, sexual exploitation.
b) To serve our participants in their development of healthy relationships with their peers, members of the Society and others in the wider community.
c) To foster collaborative working relationships with partners in service, individuals and agencies, so that the Society will be better equipped to serve the varied needs of our young women.
d) To sensitize and create an awareness in the wider community of the special needs of our women and, wherever possible, share mutual gifts and talents.
e) To fulfill our Mission through the ministries outlined below:
i. To offer safe and affordable living arrangements to our participants and their children; to assist our participants in developing the skills needed to live independently.
ii. To offer long term relationship-based support and opportunities for continued involvement in SAS to all participants, past and present.
iii. To provide Programs for our participants focusing on recovery and life skills.
iv. To offer peer-based education in the wider community on prevention and opportunities for recovery from drug, alcohol , emotional abuse and sexual abuse and exploitation.
v. To offer safe community-based childcare for the children of SAS participants, staff and volunteers.
vi. To equip staff and volunteers with the knowledge and skills necessary for the work of SAS through formal and informal training.
vii. To offer workplace experience to our participants through SAS sponsored opportunities, primarily SAS social enterprises.
viii. To offer faith based activities to our members and others in the SAS community.
f) The society shall portray in its operations and policies the following beliefs:
i. That God inspired the founding of SAS and is the inspiration of the practice of our ongoing work.
ii. That the life and teachings of Jesus Christ are examples of love and restoration.
iii. The God-given intrinsic worth of every person.
iv. The value of a safe community as a place of healing and growth.
v. That Servanthood towards those in need is a fundamental orientation of SAS.
3. Amendments to the Constitution: Proposals to amend the Constitution for the Servants Anonymous Society of Calgary shall be submitted by the Board of Directors to all active voting members for a decision and require the approval of at least 75% of the active voting members, present or by proxy.
